Cafe Au Lait was formed in 2008 while writing their first full length album with Michael Liuzza titled, “In The Meantime” (released 2012). The idea to name the band as such was inspired by our early mornings, and late night rehearsals. We’d often find ourselves vacillating over composition arrangements, potential venues & gigs, and the latest goings on of our crew while brewing a fresh pot of CDM (Cafe Du Monde) Coffee, with cream and sugar! Music always felt better after a fresh cup of coffee.
During that time, Anthony Knighten was coming into his own as a music producer, and engineer. Anthony constantly sought out artists that he knew had a voice, and a message worth sharing. Inspired by the Funk Brothers of Motown, Cafe Au Lait set out to compose the soundtrack of listeners lives. Working along side Nick Bernard (Former bassist/recording engineer), their first 3 song EP “Orleans Blues Boy” was recorded, and mixed all in house (Studio 717). After touring the Central and Eastern United states from 2011-2012 the band returned to the studio to record the full length album “In the Meantime”, a soulful musical expression of coming of age in New Orleans at the turn of the 20th century.
At present, Cafe Au Lait’s core is powered by Anthony Knighten (Drm/MD), Michael Liuzza (Vocal/Lyricist), Lawrence Ussin (Bass/Logistics Manager), & Andrew Davis (Gtr/Artistic coordinator). Together, the group has performed internationally, nationally, and locally in New Orleans. Cafe Au Lait writes, records, and performs original arrangements for, and with many different talented artists, vocalists and instrumentalists. Their music based services have been hired for a variety of venues, festivals, events, and private clients. Cafe Au Lait believes in being authentic artists, thus striving to preserve the rich jazz, blues, and afro-cuban traditions of New Orleans, and honoring their love of Motown, rock and roll, and relentless funk is always at the forefront of the music they create.
This Spring 2016, Cafe Au Lait will be releasing it’s newest single, “Hard to Find” – written from the pain of heartache – from their upcoming album, “The Immersion Effect”. Looking ahead, the band has festivals, private parties, and special events planned for the future that will showcase their dynamic live stage performance.
